We are now in the Metropolitan season of
Servant Leadership

But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.  Luke 22:26

With Christ as our model, those who lead are those who serve.

Classes meet every other day for 1½ hours.  In addition to rehearsing for performances the students also study music theory and work on Musicianship Tests that include playing scales, reporting on composers in history, writing about musical performances they have heard and putting together charts and posters showing correct posture and positions. Orchestra performances include winter concerts, Prince George's County Festivals, a spring music trip and a spring concert.  In addition, the students may choose to perform at the County Solo/Ensemble Festival and the State Solo/Ensemble Festival. In the Spring of 2007, the Chamber orchestra earned a Superior rating at the County Festival, and an Excellent rating at the Maryland State Orchestra Festival and at the Disney Festival in Orlando Florida.

Thank You Metropolitan

As we approach the end of the year, the 2007 Servants in Training Class who planned and provided leadership to our Pastor and Lady Liz’s 30th Anniversary celebration would like to thank the Metropolitan Baptist Church family and staff for your support, assistance, participation, prayers and encouragement of our efforts and events.  It was our goal to celebrate and appreciate our beloved First Family during the month of October and to have you join with us in honoring Pastor Hicks and Lady Liz.  It was a remarkable celebration of “Pastor and People” that truly honored their many years of service and sacrifice to our church.  We would also like to thank Pastor Hicks for giving us this opportunity to serve and to use our time, gifts and talents to celebrate this important milestone in our church's history and to glorify God.  Again, we sincerely, thank you all for making our celebration of 30 Years of Pastoral Power, Passion and Purpose a success!!

From Believing to Possessing

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Once again the Christian Discipleship Council presents you with an opportunity to submit your writings for the 40 Days of Power book of Meditations & Reflections.
Last year we looked at the Blessings of Change and how an unexpected change turned out to be a blessing. Our theme this year, “From Believing to Possessing”, gives you an opportunity to write about visions being fulfilled.

“Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you. . .”(Joshua 1: 2b-3).

As we prepare to enter into the New Metropolitan, share with your Metropolitan family how you have gone from believing God’s word to possessing the promise. Devotions must be no more than 650 words. Email Submissions must be received no later than Saturday, January 5, 2008. Email submissions should be sent to JFEADDY1@aol.com. Handwritten or typed submissions must be received by Saturday December 22, 2007. You may also leave your devotion in the church office in a sealed envelope for Rev. Adriane Blair-Wise/ATTN: 40 DAYS OF POWER.

God’s Love,

Rev. Adriane Blair-Wise

Metropolitan's 16th Annual Teen Convocation will take place from January 18 - 20, 2008.  Our theme is CHANGE: Trust for Transformation. For more information, call the church office at 202-238-5000.

The Vision and Mission of Metropolitan Baptist Church

Our Vision

Metropolitan is a vibrant, multicultural congregation whose vision is as broad as the grace of God. We are a church in transition, building on the strength of our historic past while claiming the new location for ministry that God has given to us. We are developing a ministry to families with a continuing emphasis on the social dimensions of the gospel. Come grow with us as we seek to Become the Kingdom of God on earth.

Our Mission

The mission of the Metropolitan Baptist Church ministries is to bring persons into a saving and redemptive relationship as Disciples of Jesus Christ. We are a Spiritual body whose only foundation is the Word of God. We fulfill our ministry as we proclaim and teach, pray and worship, forgive and reconcile. As we live by Christ's example, we empower others to carry out the commands of God. We seek only to be God's servants as agents of healing and wholeness in a wounded and fragmented world.
