METROPOLITAN BAPTIST CHURCH CELEBRATES THIRTY YEARS OF PASTORAL POWER,
PASSION AND PURPOSE

(September 28, 2007) Washington, DC— Metropolitan Baptist Church will
celebrate 30 years of Pastor and People with Senior Servant Rev. Dr. H. Beecher
Hicks, Jr. during the entire month of October. (View

“God has not failed us,” said Dr. Hicks. “For thirty years, together, we have
seen our ministry grow in width and depth. We have been able to extend our reach
into this community and witnessed transformation. Mrs. Hicks and I look forward
to the celebration of three decades of ministry with the Washington Metropolitan
community”, added Hicks. “Furthermore, although we cherish the precious memories
of these thirty years, we are excited about what God has planned for the years
to come.”
The entire month will be filled with celebratory worship
beginning Saturday, October 6 at 6:30 pm with a benefit concert for the
Metropolitan Day School featuring gospel recording artist and son of
Metropolitan Rev. Richard Smallwood and Vision. Iyanla Vanzant will serve as the
Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. (tickets required) The Sunday, October 7
worship will be a “Down Home” service with preaching by Dr. Wilson Fallin,
president of Birmingham Bible College, Birmingham, AL (7:45 am) and Dr.
Granville Seward, pastor emeritus, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Newark, NJ (11:00
am) followed by a “Shuga & Sweets Soda Fountain Shoppe Social” celebration with
senior saints.
Our Fall Revival kicks-off Sunday, October 14 with Dr. Maurice Watson,
Beulahland Bible Church, Macon, GA preaching for both services. MBC First Lady
Elizabeth Hicks will be honored with a reception immediately following the 11:00
am service. Dr. Watson and Dr. Ralph West, pastor of the Church Without Walls
will preach nightly beginning at 7:30 pm October 15-17.
On the weekend of October 20-21, we will celebrate 30 years of pastoral leadership locally and globally through prayer, the preached word and praise. On Saturday, October 20 at 6:00 pm nationally renowned gospel recording artist Dorothy Norwood and the Metropolitan Music Ministry and Rev. Grainger Browning pastor of Ebenezer AME, Fort Washington, MD will take us to a higher level of praise. This service will include a musical tribute by Richard Smallwood. Sunday, October 21st will feature the dynamic preaching of Bishop J.D. Wiley, Life Center Cathedral, New Orleans, LA at both 7:45 am and 11:00 am. The celebration will continue with an “Evening of Reflections” at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City with the Honorable Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Rainbow/PUSH, National Council of Negro Women, Chair Emerita, the Honorable Dr. Dorothy I. Height and other distinguished special guests. (tickets required)
The month-long celebration will culminate on Sunday, October
28th with Communion services with Rev. Dr. Ivan Hicks, First Baptist Church
Indianapolis and son of Pastor Hicks preaching both services.

ALL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT OUR DC LOCATION AT 1225 R STREET, NW
Metropolitan Baptist Church is a 142-year old historic congregation currently
worshiping at 1225 R Street in Northwest Washington, DC. Its relocation to
Largo, Maryland will accommodate its expansion of ministry and services to all
segments of its congregation and its new community. Construction is well
underway and relocation is planned for sometime in 2008.
Worship services are held on Saturday at Miracle Plaza, 96 Harry S. Truman Drive
in Largo, Maryland, from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm and on Sunday at 7:45 am and 11:00 am,
at 1225 R Street, NW, Washington, DC.
