Reverend Brenda Girton-Mitchell is a native of the state of Indiana. She is
married to very supportive spouse, Mr. James A. Mitchell and resides in Silver
Spring, Maryland.
Reverend Girton-Mitchell received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary
education from Ball State University and a Master degree from Indiana/Purdue
University in Indianapolis. She graduated with honors from Chicago Kent College
of Law. Rev. Girton-Mitchell was licensed to preach in 1998. She received a
Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2004 and served as the Associate General Secretary for Justice and advocacy of
the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, directing the advocacy
work of that organization.
Rev. Brenda joined Metropolitan in 1987. She has served as a Sunday School
teacher; was ordained as a Deacon in 1992; served as Chair of the Trustee
Ministry; and as a member of the Metropolitan Community Development Corporation.
She currently serves as Minister of Stewardship & Missions. She is the chaplain
for the National Bar Association and is vice Chair of the Board of Wesley
Theological Seminary.
