Rev. Melvin M. Maxwell is the fifth child born to Dolores and the late Clarence
Maxwell on May 23, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his Bachelors of
Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Southern Illinois University with
minor degrees in Contract Management and Social Science. He received his Master’s of Divinity Degree
from Wesley
Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 2008.
Rev. Maxwell was called to ministry in October 1985 while stationed at
Plattsburgh AFB, New York, and was appointed Youth Minister at the Base Chapel.
He later became the Youth and Assistant Pastor at the Bethel Tabernacle Holiness
Church in Buffalo, New York where he served four years under the Leadership of
Rev. Dr. Joseph Chavis. In 1993, Rev Maxwell was ordained as Youth Pastor for
the First Shiloh Baptist Church, Buffalo, New York, under the leadership of Rev.
Dr. Leslie Braxton.
Rev. Maxwell is currently the Assistant to the Senior Minister for Men, Children
and Youth at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, D.C., under the leadership
of the Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. H. Beecher Hicks, Jr. Rev. Maxwell strongly
believes that youth are hungry for the training and tools to do ministry now!
His extensive background in many areas has empowered others to stretch
themselves and become all that God has purposed for them. Rev. Maxwell is
married to Cherry and they have three children, Maurice, Mikaela, and Mariah.
