Reverend Dr. Jesse L. Wood joined Metropolitan on Sunday, May 9, 2004 as Assistant to the Senior Servant. He currently serves as Executive Pastor.
The Reverend Dr. Wood is a graduate of Central State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, the Ohio State University with a degree in educational administration, and Master of Divinity degree from the Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center, Massachusetts. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Wood was licensed and ordained by his father, the late Reverend A. Wilson Wood, former Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. He served as Pastor of the Love Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio from 1986 until his departure in 2004 to join Metropolitan. He was also serving as Affiliated Professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to his theological and academic training Dr. Wood piloted the national community centered banking program. This program revolutionized the banking industry, and has enhanced the banking relationship between the African American Church, the African American community and banking institutions. He, along with four Ohio ministers, developed the Unity Partnership, Inc., an economic empowerment resource program. They constructed a 4.2 million dollar job opportunity center and a 6.2 million dollar health and wellness center. Dr. Wood was instrumental in receiving a grant for HUD 202 housing project for 25 handicapped housing units known as Love Zion manor.
He is the President/CEO and Founder of the Higher Ground Leadership Academy and Higher Ground Travel.
Born in East Gulf, West Virginia, Dr. Wood is the son of the late Pastor and Mrs. A. Wilson Wood. He is married to Rev. Dr. Cynthia Trudel Turner Wood, pastor Dayspring Community Church, Lanham, MD. He is father of five adult children and grandfather of fifteen.
