Rev. Nathaniel J. Yates, Sr. is the Youth and Young Adult Pastor at Metropolitan Baptist Church. He subscribes to the belief that “Youth Ministry begins when youth minister.”
Rev. Yates was born in Washington DC, and is one of four children. He and his wife Brittany are the parents of three children: two sons and a daughter.
To date Rev. Yates has earned five degrees: an Associate’s degree in Disaster Preparedness / Emergency Management, a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, and a Master of Public Health degree before going to Seminary.
He has also successfully earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Pastoral Studies from the Lancaster Bible College, Capital Bible Seminary. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies.
Rev. Yates’ ministry development began at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) where he was licensed by his father in ministry: Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr. At FBCG he served as the Interim Director of the Young Adult Ministry, Assistant Director of Youth Bible Study, Assistant Ministerial Team Lead, Bible Institute Instructor, and in other ministry roles.
Outside of ministry in the church setting, Rev. Yates also serves as an Air Force (Reserve) Chaplain. He is also a public servant, working for the federal government for over 13 years.
Rev. Yates is a “leader who serves and a servant who leads.”
